2008 National Security Cup in soccer: Victory for the Indeportables!
Braving the rain and thunder, against wind and tide, the Indeportables defeated the Inquisitors 2-0, in the first game of the 2008 National Security Cup in soccer, which took place on 26 July in Parc Lafontaine, Montreal.

The small but euphoric crowd witnessed the spectacular beginnings of team captain Adil Charkaoui's career in soccer. (For more information on the two teams, see the programme here.)
The first goal was made by Mohamed Harkat (aka a local fill-in for Harkat, who is under house arrest in Ottawa). The second by Charkaoui himself. In winning the victory, the Indeportables, with years of hard struggle under their belts, saw themselves freed at last from their GPS-tracking bracelets, at least symbolically.
For their part, the Inquisitors cut a pitiful figure, despite the generosity they were afforded by the referee, Federal Court Chief Justice Allan Lutfy: foul play, lack of coordination, no team spirit, trickery. Denis Coderre was sent off the field, while Stockwell Day had a visibly difficult time following the moves of his team-mates. As losers, the Inquisitors were each awarded a security certificate, signed by none other than Stockwell Day and Diane Finley.
Judge Lufy used all the arbitrary power that he could, and many of his decisions were greeted with discontent, even complete incomprehension. Among others, his decision to deport Adil Charkaoui during the first minutes of the second half, as well as the orange card he gave Jaballah because JP, the CSIS agent playing for the Inquisitors, suspected Jaballah of having the profile of someone who, now or at some point in the future, might possibly touch the ball with his hands.
Given the success of this first game in the 2008 National Security Cup in soccer, the organizers, the Coalition Justice for Adil Charkaoui, are considering holding a second match on a day with better weather.
So keep an eye on the Coalition's website, www.adilinfo.org, and on the announcements in your networks for a new game and for images of the historic win by the Indeportables.
Long live the Indeportables!
