Workshops

Coalition Justice for Adil Charkaoui offers workshops covering a range of issues relating to security certificates.

This is an issue at the heart of several serious political trends which are threatening our communities and facing our society as a whole: expanding state surveillance and control; racism; islamophobia; increasing, arbitrary and harsh immigration controls; a culture of secrecy and fear - in brief, the "national security" agenda.

In February 2007, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized that the security certificate process was illegal. The government immediately announced that it will introduce a new security certificate legislation this fall.

Our presentation will provide an overview of the security certificate process and the campaign against it, looking in detail at what has happened to the men and their families who are currently subject to security certificates and what they are now facing. It will offer a basis for understanding the importance of this issue to our communities and society in general, and provide an update on the highly successful popular campaign that has been underway since 2002.

The presentation can be adapted to your needs: we have a slide show, short video presentation, and a visual display. We can focus on specific questions and issues according to your interests. We can present in Arabic (Magrebian dialect), English, French, Spanish and Urdu.
